As we reach the halfway point of Å·ÃÀAV 2, I want to take a moment to commend our students for their outstanding efforts both in the classroom and beyond. From academic achievements to co-curricular triumphs, our campus has been buzzing with energy, enthusiasm and excellence. It’s been inspiring to witness the growth, resilience, and spirit of our students as they embrace every opportunity with open minds and hearts.

Year 9 Melbourne Experience
The Year 9 Camp was a transformative journey, as students stepped out of their comfort zones and into the vibrant heart of Melbourne. What began with nerves quickly turned into a week of confident exploration. Navigating trams, city streets, and cultural landmarks, students developed independence and a deeper understanding of urban life. We eagerly await their final presentations, where they will share insights into pressing social issues such as homelessness, addiction, and community connection. Their voices are sure to be powerful and thought-provoking.

Garnsey Production – Newsies

Our campus came alive with the energy of Broadway as students brought Newsies to the stage. The production was a resounding success, showcasing the incredible talent, dedication, and teamwork of our students. It was particularly special to see younger students stepping into the spotlight, supported by the mentorship of their older peers. A heartfelt thank you to Mrs Christina Kyriakou, Dr Cameron, and the entire production team for their unwavering support and guidance.

Sporting Achievements

Our athletes have continued to shine across multiple competitions:

  • SEISA Athletics at Casey Fields: Congratulations to Cassie Farley (U16 Female Champion) and Himesh Rajapaske (U17 Male Champion). A special mention to Lylah Hiskins for setting a new SEISA record in the U13 Girls 100m with a time of 13.22 seconds.
  • ICCES Athletics at Albert Park: Facing tough competition, we were proud of our students efforts, placing 5th overall and 3rd in the Star Shield. Lylah Hiskins continued her stellar form, setting a new ICCES record in the U13 Girls 100m.
  • VSAC Swimming at MSAC: McKenzie Gibbs secured 1st place in the 12–14 Girls 50m Butterfly, along with three 3rd place finishes. Abby Paulet delivered an outstanding performance with three 1st place wins in the 15–18 Girls category.

I share a huge thanks and congratulations to all students who participated in these events – we really admire your pride, enthusiasm and leadership.

Year 8 Cape Conran Camp
Our Year 8 students embraced the great outdoors during their camp at Cape Conran. Building on their Year 7 experiences, they engaged in canoeing, environmental activities and trekking. Despite some challenging weather, their conduct and enthusiasm remained exemplary. A big thank you to Ms Sarah Meades and the Outdoor Ed team for making this experience so meaningful.

Reconciliation Assembly
In recognition of Reconciliation Week, our campus gathered for a moving assembly that began with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony led by GunaiKurnai man Dylan O'Shanassy. This year’s theme, Bridging Now to Next, was brought to life through our Prefects’ reflections on GunaiKurnai history and the importance of reconciliation. We hope this deepens our students’ connection to the traditional custodians of our land and inspires ongoing engagement with reconciliation efforts.

As we look ahead to the final five weeks of term, there’s still much to look forward to: the SEISA Music Festival, Year 8 Mental Health First Aid Training, Live4Life Community Launch Day, Bands Concert, Year 10 & 11 Exams, Year 7 Camp, and our Cultural Festival. Let’s continue to support one another and finish the term strong!
