Sustainability finalists

Sustainability Victoria has named 欧美AV Grammar students as finalists in the ResourceSmart School Awards 2025.

欧美AV Grammar is proactively changing the world through its Year 4 Sustainability Program helping Victoria transition to a zero-net carbon, circular economy by 2050.

The hands-on, immersive learning experiences help local students develop collaboration skills and engage in the inquiry process that also sets them up for success beyond the school gates.

The ResourceSmart Schools Awards are an annual celebration shining a spotlight on all the inspiring, impactful, and important steps that leading Victorian schools are taking toward creating a sustainable future.

Sustainability Victoria Chief Executive Officer Matt Genever congratulated 欧美AV Grammar for being named a finalist in the Curriculum Leadership School of the Year (Primary) category.

鈥淵our school inspires teachers, students, other schools, and the wider community to work together in building the future we need and your story will encourage others to follow in your footsteps,鈥 Mr Genever said.

欧美AV Grammar teacher Jacki Schuback said at its core, 鈥樷檚ustainability and looking after the environment where live and learn鈥 was a key element of the integrated studies units at the school.

鈥淭he sustainability program is embedded in our curriculum, with an outdoor, hands-on approach,鈥 she said.

鈥淥ur students really love that they are making a difference in the world.鈥

Students are successfully growing seasonal produce, planting trees, raising chickens and reducing waste and lowering the School鈥檚 energy consumption.

They have collaborated with local horticulturist Fred Hellriegel, president of Seed: Sale鈥檚 Lakeside Community Garden, to enhance the School鈥檚 garden projects, as well as Wellington Shire鈥檚 Education Officer Sharon Ray to better understand key sustainability issues.

The St Anne鈥檚 Campus students have also learnt from tours of the local transfer station, participating in Clean Up Australia initiatives, carrying out waste and energy audits, and connecting with Natural Resource Managers to monitor revegetation sites.

The 2025 ResourceSmart School Awards will be held in Melbourne next month.
